city of assholes

Earlier this week I went to visit my hometown, that lovely little hamlet called L.A. I left this seething constanly churning mass of humainty and internal combustion in Sept. 1977-it was my birthday present to myself. Periodiaclly I have ventured back every year or so to see if it is still as awful as when I left and by golly, it is. Thankfully I am only a visitor anymore, maxing out at a three nights stay. I say that L.A. is a city of assholes because of my countless driving experiences there as a resident and now, a visitor. The aggression and coldheartedness displayed by L.A. drivers is something of an example for the rest of the world........come to L.A. and be hated. I really doubt that any of the agression I encounter on L.A. roadways is heartfelt, it just comes off that way. I imagine that the people that clog the freeways are truly impartial when it comes to other cars that share the road-they distribute the aggression equally. The behavior of L.A. drivers seems to be a direct result of too many people in the same space but not sharing the same space. It isn't about sharing at all....it's a moving battleground of egos and frustration. Drivers act out on each other, perhaps out of other frustrations that happened earlier. I find it a miracle that the city of L.A. hasen't imploded or eaten itself. All the same, I still have to make my pilgrimage now and then to see family and/or friends that have the ability to cope in this city that I left so long ago.
